Lolita Latte - Masquerade (Chapter 7)

When Fiena went to work that day, she was greeted by a young lass wearing a bird mask.
“You. Are. Late.” She cooed.
“GYAH!!! Scary bird mask lady!!” she shrieked in fear.
“No, you ignorant fool, It’s the annual ‘Masquerade Day!” said Alice, revealing herself and opening her black bird mask.
“Oh… tell me about it.” Fiena hesitated.
“Every 3rd May in the Other Realm is a celebration and a holiday. It was about the historical alliance the kingdoms made 5 centuries ago. So, we held a Masquerade Ball for the rich, nobles and royalty. But that doesn’t mean the other creatures are left out. They, also have this ‘Masquerade Festival’ where they wear colourful masks and sell goods on the streets.”
“And you are going with us tonight. Wear something decent!” Alice commanded.
Fiena nodded.
She quickly got into uniform, and Mia, who was wearing a black mask with red sequins and red lace was standing there, holding something.
“Fiena, I’ll help put your mask on for you.” She said.
After that, Fiena questioned, “So, what’s this?”
“It’s your mask, what else.” She said. Fiena examined her mask, it was only hiding her left eye. It was more like an eye patch with a hole for the eye. It was white, decorated with turquoise sequins and lace.

Fiena had phoned Dorothy to help her.
They were at Dorothy’s mother’s boutique.
Fiena wanted to buy something she can wear to the ‘Masquerade.’
“So, Fiena…. What brings you here? At my mother’s boutique?”
“Just, looking for something decent to wear and buy.”
“Okay, let’s cut to the chase. You interested in someone, aren’t you?” Dorothy asked.
“What? No! I just want to buy something. My closet space is near empty. Will you just work with me?” Fiena sighed.
“Ok... Come over here…” Dorothy showed the way to a closet, full of glamorous dresses.
“This is where my mother keeps the good ones. They’re for V.I.P.s and her friends, but since she knows you, it be alright.” She explained.
Fiena examined the dresses one by one.
And there it was, the dress she really liked and caught her attention.
It was an ankle-length satin turquoise dress.
The upper part were swirls, made from golden satin cloth and it had glass beads decorating the skirt.
“H-how much is that one?” Fiena asked.
“200 hundred dollars”
“Woah…”
“It’s because the dress is made in fine, high quality materials.”
“Oh… nevermind… you have anything cheaper for Mc’ Taylor here?” Fiena asked, quite disappointed.
“Don’t sulk, Fiena. There’s this really quite turquoise dress that costs just 20 dollars. I can also throw in a little cardigan just for you.” Dorothy, said, cheering her friend up.
Fiena nodded.
It was a fine bargain.
And the dress looks just as cute as the price.
It was a mini knee-length, with white straps and a matching white cardigan.

That night, they all gathered at the café. The others were wearing normal clothes.
Fiena wore the dress she bought, with matching white sandal strap heels.
“When I say something decent I mean it. We’re going to a masquerade, not prom.” Alice remarked.
“I- I’m sorry….” Fiena bowed her head low, ashamed.
“No worries, fairy Fazzy is here!” Fazzy exclaimed, brought out her wand. The stick was lavender purple, a yellow crystal shaped star on the top.
“Close your eyes, and believe in magic!” Fazzy screamed.
And in an instant flash, their clothes change into:
Gwen- Her dress was an ocean print ankle-length dress with white ruffles sewed on the end, blue crystal pearls, her hair slicked back and into a half ponytail, and her mask was a blue court-jester mask with gold sequins. “Ooh… Ocean Blue!!” she said.
Syaira- Her dress, being bright orange, decorated with cream lace, pearls, an orange ribbon tied lovely around her neck but not enough to choke her and she wore a white porcelain mask with decorative black swirls and long tangerine earrings. Her lovely red hair was tied with a cream coloured ribbon.
Enyz – So lovely, this angel. She wore an elegant white silk dress, white black satin ribbons and the white skirt trailed behind as if she was a bride and a white bangle, with diamonds decorated neatly on the end. Her hair up in messy bun bride style, and her mask was white, with lace, ruffles and creamy pink beads; she holds it using a white decorated stick with sequins and gems. To add it all up, she wore a black frilly shawl.
Rita- Her curly hair, into an elegant bun with beautiful glistening gems, she wore; golden pyramid earrings, a golden Egyptian necklace, and her Egyptian style dress was white, slender and the top part had a huge malachite making her look like a true Egyptian. And her mask had an Egyptian carving with some red ruby by the corners.
Fiena- Since she was human, hers was really simple. Her straight hair turned curly, some parts of her hair bangs were pushed aside, and she had a tiara of tiny pieces of diamonds up her little head. She wore a diamond necklace with turquoise pendant, and she got to wear the dress she wanted from Dorothy’s mother’s shop. She didn’t steal it, of course. She wore white long satin gloves, her hands full of diamond jewelries. And her mask was like earlier, only one part except a million times better. At the bridge of the nose part of the mask, was a fine turquoise gem and the others were sequins and diamonds bits.
Alice- Her shiny black hair into a long Dutch braid, with a purple ribbon, golden earrings with fine looking amethyst on it. Her dress was black, simply pure black, blacker than the night sky, had bits of diamonds decorating the top part, purple silk ribbons tied to the waist part and there was a half cut by her right knee making her look sexy.  She wore black lace stockings and black pump heels with black roses on them. It also appears she was wearing a black bird mask with purple frills, lace and amethyst and purple sequins. Her neck was to be put a frilly black chocker with an amethyst on the center part.
Mia – Her dress was depicted a Lolita design. It was red in the colour, had lace along the center, ruffled collar puffy sleeves, a black corset with ruffled black lace and the red skirt, just 3 inches below her ankles ending the skirt as if it was torn, leaving some black torn parts of fabric. And Mia was the only one wore boots. It was black, had red ribbons on the sides and she wore  black fishnet gloves with some red lace on both her hands, her hair tied into low ponytails. Her mask was simple, gothic, red with black and white sequins with black lace, ruffles and feathers on the center part was a ruby, and there was a red rose by the end of the mask. It alsp appears that she wore the ruby necklace, and black round plugs.
Zalia – Her dress had a butterfly theme, her blue hair in a neat fish plait tied by black bow ribbon. Glistening butterfly earrings clipped her ears and they were made out of emerald, sapphire and turquoise, and it matched her butterfly corset and mask. Her dress was however simple, yet elegant in dark Prussian blue with some shades of bright sky blue and the sleeves were loose yet puffy, Upon her head, sat a mini silver tiara with sapphire bits.
Fazzy – Blonde hair in a half ponytail, and her dress theme were flowers. Her earrings were bright yellow flowers and her dress was cute, simple had big neckline, a bit revealing had lace and a yellow ribbon, yellow satin gloves with matching daisy bracelets. Her large skirt had caramel coloured sash and sunflowers clipped by and ruffles and lace while her neck had a yellow carnation choker. And her mask was a golden joker mask smiling.

“Woah…. I feel a lot like Cinderella!” Fiena exclaimed.
“That’s the power of fairies, babe…” Fazzy laughed.
“But, why does Mia gets boots while the rest of us gets heels?” Fiena asked, examining Gwen’s ocean heels, Syaira’s orange ruffle pumps, Enyz’s white ribbon pump heels, Rita’s elegant golden Egyptian styled strap heels, Alice’s floral black pump heels, Zalia’s blue butterfly strap heels and Fazzy flower heel.
“It’s because she failed as a girl.” Alice sneered.
“Hey! Not my fault I can’t walk on those things!” Mia protested.
The other girls smiled and were on their way.
***********
The other’s were a bit stunned by the girls experience but Fiena was excited more than them.
She loved new things and she’s bound to love this yet!
The ballroom was fantastic! It was very, very LARGE, filled with lots of royalties, nobles, all the rich and important people in the Other Realm, waiters and waitresses serving food and drinks to the important guests. Fiena was deeply amazed. The room was bright caused by a huge crystal chandelier, the finest arts carved in marble up the walls, the creamy floor tile was smooth, allowing the dancers to glide easily, huge white marble pillars, a big stage, consisting 23 thrones, two large ones, and two mediums ones and a very, very LONG  dining table.
The wizard Emperor, Edmund Murdoc sat on one of the large thrones and his wife, Adriana sat on the medium one.
While the Vampire King, William Thorn, sat on the large throne, his beautiful wife Sara on the medium one.
And the others were the kings of creatures, trolls, mermaids, faeries, undead, spirits, night elves, Santa Clause(!?), a man with a pumpkin for his head, a giant pink bunny(more !!??) and a leprechaun.
There were also large windows, the architecture of it carved so wonderfully, large stairs for them to access the dance floor and pots of flowers decorating the room were everywhere to be seen, a LONG buffet table, three doors opened, revealing balconies, famous painting and art and what caught Fiena’s attention was there was a large fountain by the left corner, next to the buffet table, it was carved beautifully and some mermaids were resting in there, laughing and talking to some other creatures as well.

The other girls were already a hit and soon enough other random nobles invited them to dance, except Fiena.
She was shy and all she did was sit on lovely carved marble bench outside, by the lovely carved marble balcony. There were some pots of beautiful coloured flowers arranged neatly. She plucked one daisy, twirled the green stem between her gloved fingers, sighing and wondering if this was a dream. She heard some noises peeked outside the castle balcony where the ball was being held at the Wizard castle, after all.
The other low class creatures didn’t miss out all right, the masquerade. The town was decorated by strings of lights, everyone also dressed for the masquerade.
They had street performances, street carts selling delicacies, masks, potions, good merchandises and everyone was happy. Just then, a *centaur began playing his guitar, strumming a lovely tune and two pixies started to dance. Soon, the other crowd joined singing, dancing happily and laughing.
“They seem to be enjoying themselves. Wish I could join them.” Fiena thought.
“Oh, you will. After this ball” Mia laughed softly, who suddenly appeared and took a seat next to her.
“How’d you know what I was thinking?” Fiena asked.
“Don’t forget, I’m a witch, I can read your mind. So, how come your not dancing? There are plenty of cute guys here.” Mia replied.
“Easy for you to say, what about you?”
“And that’s the benefits of the phrase; I. Don’t. Dance.” Mia chuckled.
“What about him?” Fiena asked, pointing to someone stalking them behind a pillar, wearing a feminine red tuxedo and red rose mask.
“Oh, you little stalker.” Mia said, annoyed and zapped a lightning towards him.
“ÓUCH!!!!!” He yelled, for the lightning almost burned his arse and he was lucky he fell into the fountain full of mermaids.
The mermaids giggled and swayed to his charming arms. He got fans pretty fast.
Mia sighed happily.
“Tell me how he is sexually obsessed with you and outstands your extreme coldness towards him” Fiena asked, sounding like a therapist.
“It all started at the Magic Academy, I was fourteen, I made a new discovery; a love potion, I even made a special pink heart shaped glass bottle with a red lid cap and carved a heart on the center ,which was a terrible mistake. The potion was fine but it had really bad side effects.” Mia explained.
“Bad how?”
“Like, making them stalk you everyday, no-stop even if you wanted to go to the bathroom. Ok, so let me continue, I wanted to show it to my magic tutor, Princess Serafina to see if it works or not. I ran while doing that, a wrong thing because Emerald was passing by me that time, I tripped, that bottle hit his head, I yelled damn and apologized. He turned his head, to reveal his cute face and that time, he was my senior and a popular senior he was, lots of girls admired him and the minute he saw me, he must have thought of me as the hot, perfect protagonist of a shoujo manga with roses floating near my face or something cos’ he immediately hugged me. At first, it was cute, a popular senior suddenly having a crush on you. But, like they say,, too much of a good thing.” Mia ended her story with a sighed.
“But, isn’t it nice having someone loving you?” Fiena asked.
“It would be, if he wasn’t such a perv and always trying to get you in bed with him.” Mia said, pissed.
“Ok, pretty awkward.”
As the two girls were talking, a handsome young man in a blue tuxedo approached them and said:
“Sorry to interrupt you beautiful ladies, but can I dance with you?”
“Urm… Mia… I think he’s referring to you.” Fiena said, nervously because this guy was seriously drop-dead gorgeous, no way he’s talking to her.
“Really? Well, too- bad, I DON’T DANCE. So, you can help yourself- I mean dance with my friend here.” Mia said, getting up and from the tone of her voice Fiena suspected that Mia knows who the real guy under the mask was.
When Mia was about to leave, she whispered in Fiena’s ear softly: “It’s Emil, you dolt.” And it surely made the human blush.
“Come, let’s dance.” He said.
“ah… but..I…...”
“Then, I’ll show you how to waltz,” he smiled.
He placed his left arm around her hips, blushing as he did so.
“Now, you put your right hand around me.” He instructed.
She did so, with a lot of blushing.
He held her left hand and started the dance.
He gave instructions like “ forward, backwards, right, left , twirl, glide, slide.”
They had a good time, Emil was a good dancing instructor and Fiena was an excellent student.
“Wow, for a merman, you can dance really well.” Fiena praised him, panting for she is out of breath.
“Well, thank you.” He said, bowing gentlemanly.
“Alright then” she giggled, curtsied.
“EMIL!!!!!! There you are!!!!!!!” squeaked a voice.
It was girl.
A beautiful girl that Fiena knew she may never compete to her.
She was very amazingly beautiful.
Golden blonde ringlets of her hair, tied by a pink ribbon, her pink heart mask, pink dress and pink jewelries. And even her makeup was pink! She was like a walking pink monster.
But a beautiful one, of course.
“Weren’t you looking for me?” she said, hugging Emil from the back.
“Aqua, let me go” Emil said.
“Who’s this little tramp?” she asked, letting him go, and spotting Fiena.
“Well, that was rude” Fiena thought but just smiled, extended her hand to give a friendly hand shake.
“Pleasure!” said Aqua, replying the handshake.
“Aqua, please, behave, your scaring Fiena, my date for tonight.” Emil said, blushing.
“Date!? Fine, I’m leaving!” Aqua said, stormed away.
“Who was that?” Fiena asked.
“My crazy fairy stalker.” Emil sighed.
Then they both broke into fits of laughter.
“Fiena, it’s 10.30 now, and let’s go to the street masquerade carnival!” said Alice and Syaira, who made a sudden appearance.
“Ok, look’s like Cinderella’s leaving early!” fiena laughed and smiled at Emil.
“And this time I’m leaving you something” he said, kissing her cheek.

*centaur – a creature which has the body of a man and a horse.
